This Spooky Purple Potion Halloween Punch with Dry Ice is a show-stopping party drink that creates a bubbling, smoking fog effect. Made with grape juice, lemonade, and a touch of blue food coloring, it’s quick to prepare and perfect for Halloween gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups purple grape juice
  • 2 cups lemonade
  • 2 cups pineapple juice
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon blue food coloring
  • 4 cups cold water or ginger ale
  • 2–3 pounds dry ice
  • 1 cup frozen cranberries (optional)
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your dry ice first (do this 30 minutes before serving): Put on thick gloves or wrap the dry ice in a kitchen towel. Place it on a sturdy surface and use a hammer to crack it into pieces about the size of golf balls. Store the pieces in a cooler with the lid slightly cracked.
  2. Mix the punch base (10 minutes before serving): In a large pitcher or mixing container, combine 4 cups purple grape juice, 2 cups lemonade, 2 cups pineapple juice, 1 cup orange juice, and 1/2 cup sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Add the blue food coloring: Add 1/2 teaspoon blue food coloring to the juice mixture and stir well. Adjust color as needed.
  4. Add the cold water or ginger ale: Stir in 4 cups cold water or ginger ale. Add frozen cranberries and blueberries if using.
  5. Pour into the punch bowl: Carefully pour the juice mixture into your punch bowl or cauldron, leaving about 2 inches of space at the top.
  6. Add the dry ice (right before serving): Using tongs or gloved hands, carefully drop the dry ice pieces into the punch bowl.
  7. Stir occasionally: Give the punch a gentle stir every 5-10 minutes to release more fog.
  8. Serve immediately: Ladle the punch into individual cups, making sure not to scoop up any dry ice pieces.

Notes

Never let anyone drink or eat the dry ice pieces. Always use a ladle to serve and remind guests not to put ice cubes from the bowl into their cups. The fog itself is safe—it’s just carbon dioxide gas—but the solid dry ice is dangerous. For best results, chill all juices overnight and add frozen fruit right before serving.
