Best Christmas Tree Cake Dip Recipe – Easy & Kid-Approved

Christmas tree cake dip - featured image

This creamy, festive dessert dip is made with cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and green food coloring, topped with sprinkles. It’s a quick and easy no-bake treat that tastes like a Little Debbie Christmas tree cake in a bowl, perfect for holiday gatherings and kid-approved.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened (full-fat recommended, e.g., Philadelphia)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure preferred)
  • Green gel food coloring (about 10-12 drops)
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles (red, green, white mix)
  • For serving: graham crackers, vanilla wafers, pretzels, or apple slices

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese and butter: Take them out of the fridge about 30 minutes before starting. They should be soft to the touch but not melted. If in a hurry, microwave cream cheese in 10-second bursts, being careful not to overheat.
  2. Beat the cream cheese and butter together: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula halfway through.
  3. Add the powdered sugar: With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the powdered sugar, about 1/2 cup at a time, to prevent a sugar cloud. Mix until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Add the vanilla and food coloring: Pour in the vanilla extract and add the green gel food coloring. Start with 8 drops, then mix on low speed. Check the color and add more drops until you get a bright Christmas tree green (about 12 drops total). Mix until evenly distributed.
  5. Fold in the sprinkles: Use a rubber spatula to gently fold in 1/3 cup of the sprinkles. Save the rest for topping. Be gentle to avoid color bleeding.
  6. Transfer to a serving bowl: Scoop the dip into a serving bowl or platter. Spread it out evenly with the spatula. Top with the remaining sprinkles, pressing them in lightly so they stick.
  7. Chill for 30 minutes (optional but recommended): This helps the dip firm up and allows flavors to meld. It’s still delicious right away if you can’t wait.
  8. Serve with your favorite dippers: Arrange graham crackers, vanilla wafers, pretzels, or fruit slices around the dip.

Notes

Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture. Gel food coloring is preferred over liquid to avoid thinning the dip. Chilling for 30 minutes is recommended for firmer texture and better flavor. The dip can be made up to 2 days in advance; add sprinkles just before serving. For a dairy-free version, use plant-based cream cheese and butter. For a chocolate version, add 2 tablespoons cocoa powder. For a peppermint twist, substitute peppermint extract for vanilla.
