This caramel apple cider sangria is a quick and easy fall cocktail made with white wine, apple cider, caramel sauce, and warm spices. Perfect for gatherings, it comes together in minutes and delivers a cozy, crowd-pleasing flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
  • 4 cups (960 ml) apple cider (unfiltered preferred)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought like Stonewall Kitchen or Trader Joe’s)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) apple brandy or Calvados (optional)
  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 1 large orange, sliced into rounds
  • 34 cinnamon sticks
  • 23 whole star anise (optional)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish
  • 23 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prep the fruit: Wash apples and orange. Slice apples into thin rounds or half-moons (about 1/4-inch thick), removing seeds but leaving skin on. Slice orange into thin rounds. Set aside.
  2. Combine the liquids: In a large pitcher (at least 2 quarts), pour the entire bottle of white wine, 4 cups apple cider, and 1/4 cup apple brandy (if using). Stir gently with a wooden spoon.
  3. Add the caramel: Measure 1/2 cup caramel sauce. If thick, warm in microwave for 10-15 seconds until pourable. Drizzle into pitcher while stirring until fully dissolved (about 30 seconds).
  4. Add spices and fruit: Drop in cinnamon sticks, star anise (if using), and sliced apples and oranges. Push fruit down into liquid to submerge.
  5. Chill and infuse: Cover pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (preferably 4-6 hours or overnight).
  6. Taste and adjust: Before serving, taste and add maple syrup or honey if desired, or a squeeze of lemon juice to balance sweetness.
  7. Serve: Fill glasses with ice (preferably apple cider ice cubes). Pour sangria over ice, including fruit slices. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best flavor, chill overnight. Use a dry white wine to balance sweetness. Make apple cider ice cubes to prevent dilution. Stir before serving as caramel may settle. Remove fruit after 24 hours if storing longer than 2 days.
