These adorable black cat Oreo truffles are a quick and easy Halloween treat made with just a few simple ingredients. Creamy, rich, and perfectly fudgy, they’re shaped like little cats and coated in dark chocolate for a spooky yet cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14.3-ounce) package regular Oreos (not Double Stuf)
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 12 ounces dark chocolate melting wafers or chips
  • Small round candy eyes (6mm size)
  • 24 mini chocolate chips (for ears)
  • Black sanding sugar or sprinkles (optional)
  • 12 teaspoons vegetable oil or coconut oil (for thinning chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Crush the entire package of Oreos (cream and all) in a food processor until you get fine, sand-like crumbs. Alternatively, place cookies in a ziplock bag and crush with a rolling pin. You should have about 2 ½ cups of crumbs.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a spatula until smooth and creamy. Add the Oreo crumbs and mix until everything comes together into a thick, dark cookie dough. If too dry, add a teaspoon of milk; if too wet, add more crushed Oreos.
  3. Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a ball. Gently pinch the top to create two little peaks for ears. Place each cat on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat until all mixture is used (about 20-24 cats). Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. While truffles chill, melt the dark chocolate in a microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth. Or use a double boiler. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil if chocolate seems thick. Let cool for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Remove tray from fridge. Working one at a time, drop a cat into the melted chocolate. Use a fork or toothpick to coat completely. Lift out, let excess drip off, and place back on parchment. The ears should still be visible.
  6. While chocolate is still wet, press two candy eyes into each cat. Pipe a tiny triangle of melted chocolate on top of each ear peak for ears. If using sprinkles, dust on now.
  7. Return tray to fridge for at least 1 hour, or until chocolate is completely firm. For best texture, let set overnight.

Notes

Don’t overmix the truffle base; mix just until combined. Chill thoroughly between steps to prevent truffles from falling apart in chocolate. Use a toothpick for dipping for a cleaner coat. Work in small batches, keeping remaining cats cold. If a cat falls apart, scoop out pieces, reshape, and chill again. Flavors improve after a day or two in the fridge.
