Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought)
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt (for finishing)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Position rack in the middle.
  2. Wash, peel (optional), core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
  3. In a large bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until coated. Let sit while making topping.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold cubed butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until mixture resembles coarse sand with pea-sized butter pieces. Stir in nuts if using.
  5. Spread seasoned apples evenly in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Pour salted caramel sauce directly over the apples without stirring.
  6. Sprinkle oat crumble evenly over the caramel-coated apples.
  7. Place dish on a baking sheet. Bake for 40-45 minutes until topping is golden brown and filling bubbles around edges. If browning too quickly, tent with foil after 30 minutes.
  8. Let cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  9. Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top just before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of apple varieties like Honeycrisp and Granny Smith. Keep butter cold for a flaky topping. Let the crisp rest after baking to allow the filling to set. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days; reheat in the oven at 300°F for 10-15 minutes to re-crisp the topping.
