Cozy Smoky Ranch Chex Mix for Fall Gatherings

Cozy Smoky Ranch Chex Mix - featured image

This isn’t just another snack mix. This is the one that will get you a text the next day asking, “Hey, can you bring that Chex Mix to the next thing?” It’s the one that disappears before the chips. The smoky ranch flavor is universally loved, not too intense, and deeply addictive.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups Corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
  • 1 cup pretzel twists (mini ones work great)
  • 1 cup whole grain crackers (like Wheat Thins or similar savory cracker)
  • 1 cup roasted, salted peanuts (or mixed nuts for variety)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry ranch dressing mix (preferably Hidden Valley)
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a little warmth)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). While it’s heating, combine all the dry mix ingredients—the three types of Chex, pretzels, crackers, and peanuts—in your large bowl. Toss them gently with your hands to distribute everything evenly.
  2. In your small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, dry ranch mix, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne (if using), and black pepper. Whisk until it’s a smooth, reddish-brown liquid.
  3. Pour the butter mixture over the dry mix. Use your spatula to gently fold and toss everything together. You want every single piece to have a little bit of that seasoning on it. Don’t be shy—get in there and make sure the stuff at the bottom gets coated, too. It takes a minute or two of patient folding.
  4. Spread the coated mix evenly onto your large roasting pan or baking sheet. Don’t pile it up—you want it in a single, even layer. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. I set a timer on my phone for 10 minutes, stir, reset, repeat. This is crucial for even toasting.
  5. After 30 minutes, give it one last good stir. Then, turn off the oven and leave the pan inside with the door slightly ajar (I wedge a wooden spoon in the door). Let it sit for another 15-20 minutes. This step is my secret to getting that perfect, crunchy texture without burning the edges.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven and let the mix cool completely on the counter. It will get crunchier as it cools. Don’t rush this—if you put it in a bag while it’s still warm, it will get soggy. Once it’s completely cool, transfer it to a serving bowl or an airtight container.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the pan; stir every 10 minutes; the oven-off trick helps achieve perfect crunch; season while warm with extra smoked paprika and sea salt if desired; store in airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks; reheat at 250°F for 5-7 minutes if needed.
