Rich, creamy crockpot hot chocolate spiked with peppermint schnapps. This easy, hands-off recipe is perfect for cozy nights, holiday parties, or converting hot chocolate skeptics.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup peppermint schnapps
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Crushed candy canes (optional, for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional, for topping)
  • Mini marshmallows (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt to prevent clumps.
  2. Pour the whole milk and heavy cream into a 6-quart slow cooker. Stir to combine.
  3. Slowly add the cocoa-sugar mixture to the milk while whisking continuously to dissolve evenly.
  4. Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and vanilla extract. Stir well.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 2 hours. Stir occasionally if desired.
  6. After 2 hours, whisk the hot chocolate until smooth and glossy.
  7. Stir in the peppermint schnapps at the end to preserve the alcohol.
  8. Ladle into mugs and top with whipped cream, crushed candy canes, chocolate shavings, or mini marshmallows as desired.

Notes

Add peppermint schnapps at the end to preserve alcohol content. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute with 1 teaspoon peppermint extract. Stir before serving to prevent chocolate from settling. Keep warm on the ‘keep warm’ setting for up to 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
