These adorable mummy sausages are wrapped in crescent roll dough with mustard eyes, making them the perfect Halloween appetizer. With just 3 ingredients and 20 minutes, they’re ridiculously easy and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12 ounces) cocktail sausages (e.g., Lit’l Smokies)
  • 1 can (8 ounces) crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. Press the seams together gently with your fingers to form one solid rectangle.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide. Aim for 8-10 strips per rectangle.
  4. Take one cocktail sausage and start wrapping. Place the end of a dough strip at one end of the sausage and wrap it around at a slight angle, leaving a small gap near the top for the eyes. The dough should overlap itself slightly. Don’t wrap too tight.
  5. Press the end of the dough strip gently against the sausage to seal it. If it doesn’t stick, dab a tiny bit of water on the end. Repeat with the remaining sausages (makes about 12-14 mummies).
  6. Place the wrapped sausages on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch between each one.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and flaky. Start checking at 10 minutes.
  8. While they’re baking, put about 2 tablespoons of mustard in a small bowl.
  9. Let the mummies cool on the baking sheet for about 3 minutes.
  10. Dip the end of a toothpick into the mustard and dot two small eyes onto each mummy. Press gently so the mustard adheres.
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature. Best within an hour of baking.

Notes

Keep the dough cold for easier handling. Press mustard eyes in deep so they don’t fall off during baking. For a more authentic mummy look, make the dough strips slightly uneven. Watch the oven closely as they can go from golden to burnt quickly. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes.
