A quick and easy Halloween cocktail made with fresh blood oranges, lime, vodka, and honey. It’s tart, refreshing, and naturally crimson-colored—perfect for last-minute party prep or a festive gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 medium blood oranges (yields about 1 cup juice)
  • 2 limes (yields about 2 tablespoons juice)
  • 2 ounces (60ml) vodka (e.g., Tito’s or Ketel One)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon warm water (for honey syrup)
  • Ice cubes (preferably large)
  • Sparkling water or club soda (optional, for fizz)
  • Blood orange slices (for garnish)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (for garnish)
  • Edible glitter or luster dust (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice cube trays with small plastic vampire fangs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Roll each blood orange firmly on the counter before cutting. Cut in half crosswise and juice to get about 1 cup of juice. Juice the limes to get about 2 tablespoons of juice. Strain out seeds but leave pulp if desired.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons honey with 1 tablespoon warm water. Stir until honey dissolves completely to make honey syrup.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces (60ml) vodka, 3 ounces (90ml) fresh blood orange juice, 1/2 ounce (15ml) fresh lime juice, and 1/2 ounce (15ml) honey syrup. Add a handful of ice cubes (about 4-5 large ones).
  4. Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
  5. Fill a serving glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the cocktail over the ice. For a smoother drink, use a fine-mesh strainer to catch pulp.
  6. If using sparkling water or club soda, add a splash (about 1-2 ounces/30-60ml) and gently stir.
  7. Garnish with a thin slice of blood orange on the rim and a rosemary sprig. Optionally, sprinkle with edible glitter or add vampire fang ice cubes.

Notes

Don’t skip the honey syrup step—honey clumps if added directly to cold liquid. Blood oranges vary in sweetness; taste juice and adjust honey accordingly. Use large ice cubes to prevent dilution. Shake vigorously for best texture. For a big batch (serves 6-8): combine 1 1/2 cups vodka, 2 1/4 cups blood orange juice, 1/3 cup lime juice, and 1/3 cup honey syrup in a pitcher. Refrigerate, then serve over ice and top with sparkling water.
