Peanut Butter Spider Web Brownies - featured image

Fudgy brownies topped with a creamy peanut butter swirl that looks like a spider web. Perfect for Halloween parties, potlucks, or a fun Tuesday night dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (18 oz) fudge brownie mix (recommended: Ghirardelli or Duncan Hines)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (canola or melted coconut oil work too)
  • 1/4 cup water (or strong brewed coffee for deeper chocolate flavor)
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (recommended: Skippy or Jif)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine brownie mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Stir until just combined (about 30 strokes). Do not overmix.
  3. In a small bowl, combine creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, and softened butter. Mix until smooth and creamy. If too stiff, microwave for 10 seconds; if too runny, add more powdered sugar.
  4. Pour brownie batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Tap pan gently on counter to release air bubbles.
  5. Spoon peanut butter mixture into a piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip off a tiny corner. Pipe 5-6 evenly spaced dollops across the top of the batter.
  6. Using a toothpick or skewer, gently drag through each peanut butter dollop in a spiral motion, pulling outward to create a web pattern. Work quickly (about 2 minutes).
  7. Bake for 25-28 minutes, until edges are set and a toothpick inserted in center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Start checking at 22 minutes.
  8. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack (about 1 hour). Once cool, use parchment overhang to lift brownies onto a cutting board.
  9. Cut into 12-16 squares using a sharp knife, wiping knife clean between cuts.

Notes

Use creamy processed peanut butter (like Skippy or Jif) for best results; natural peanut butter can be too runny. Do not overmix brownie batter. Work quickly when creating the web pattern. Let brownies cool completely before cutting for clean edges. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Freeze individual squares wrapped in plastic wrap for up to 3 months.
