A quick and easy copycat version of the popular coffee shop brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso, made at home with simple ingredients in under five minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots of espresso (about 2 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup oat milk
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: a pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso. Start by brewing 2 shots of espresso (about 2 ounces total). If using instant espresso powder, dissolve 2 teaspoons in 2 ounces of hot water. Set aside.
  2. Dissolve the brown sugar and cinnamon. While the espresso is still hot, pour it into a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl. Add the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Whisk vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 30 seconds. If using a pinch of salt, add it now.
  3. Combine in your shaker. Pour the sweetened espresso mixture into a mason jar or cocktail shaker. Add a handful of ice cubes—about 4 to 5 large cubes.
  4. Shake it like you mean it. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 15 to 20 seconds until frothy and bubbly.
  5. Pour into a glass. Fill your serving glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the shaken espresso mixture over the ice, leaving behind the melted ice from the shaker.
  6. Top with oat milk. Slowly pour the 1/2 cup of oat milk over the back of a spoon to create a layered effect. If you want it fully mixed, give it a quick stir with a straw.
  7. Serve immediately. Enjoy while the foam is still fluffy and the ice is fresh.

Notes

Use hot espresso for best foam. Don’t overfill the shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Strain the ice from the shaker to avoid dilution. Serve immediately for best texture.
