A nostalgic Halloween veggie tray arranged in a spider web pattern, served with a creamy, herb-packed ranch dip made with cottage cheese for extra protein. Perfect for parties, school events, or pre-trick-or-treating fuel.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large cucumber, sliced into rounds
  • 1 bell pepper (orange or yellow), sliced into thin strips
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved or left whole
  • 2 carrots, peeled and cut into matchsticks
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into 3-inch pieces
  • 1 cup broccoli florets (small, bite-sized)
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets
  • 4–6 whole black olives (for spider decoration)
  • 1 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese (small-curd)
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (or homemade blend)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk (to thin, if needed)

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip first: Add sour cream, cottage cheese, ranch seasoning, fresh dill, garlic powder, and onion powder to a food processor. Blend until completely smooth, about 30 seconds. Scrape down sides, taste, and adjust seasoning. If too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until dipping consistency. Transfer to a small bowl and refrigerate.
  2. Wash and prep all vegetables: Rinse everything. Slice cucumber into 1/4-inch rounds. Cut bell pepper into thin strips. Halve cherry tomatoes if large. Cut carrots and celery into uniform pieces. Break broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized florets. Pat all veggies dry with a clean towel.
  3. Arrange the spider web base: Place the small bowl of ranch dip in the center of a large round platter. Arrange cucumber rounds in a circle around the dip bowl, about 2 inches out, forming the inner ring.
  4. Create the web spokes: Using carrot sticks and bell pepper strips, create 8 lines radiating outward from the dip bowl to the edge of the platter, spacing them evenly. Alternate colors for visual effect.
  5. Fill in the web rings: Between the spokes, arrange remaining veggies in concentric circles: cherry tomatoes closest to dip, then broccoli, cauliflower, and celery on the outer edge. Leave space between pieces so the pattern is visible.
  6. Add the spider decoration: Place 4-6 whole black olives on top of the dip or on the tray to look like spiders. For extra effect, cut a few olive pieces into thin strips for legs and arrange around the olives. Use toothpicks to secure if needed.
  7. Serve immediately or refrigerate: Tray holds up about 2 hours at room temperature. If making ahead, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate up to 4 hours. Add olives just before serving.

Notes

For best results, dry veggies thoroughly after washing to prevent dip from becoming watery. Let dip sit in fridge for at least 15 minutes before serving to meld flavors. Cut veggies into uniform pieces (about pinky-finger thickness) for a clean web pattern. The dip can be made up to 24 hours ahead; assemble tray no more than 2 hours before serving. For dairy-free, use dairy-free sour cream and cream cheese alternatives. For spicy ranch, add 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper or minced jalapeño.
