These Spooky Spider Web Halloween Deviled Eggs are the perfect blend of creepy and cute. They’re the appetizer that disappears first at every Halloween party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise (preferably Hellmann’s)
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (for piping webs)
  • 1 can (6 ounces) large black olives
  • Fresh chives or dill (optional, for garnish)
  • Red food coloring (optional, for ‘bloodshot’ eyes)

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs: Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan, cover with cold water by an inch. Bring to a rolling boil, cover, remove from heat, and let sit for exactly 12 minutes.
  2. Ice bath: Transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water and chill for at least 5 minutes.
  3. Peel carefully: Tap eggs to crack shells, roll between palms, and peel starting from the wider end. Rinse under cold water if needed.
  4. Slice and scoop: Slice each egg in half lengthwise, pop out yolks into a mixing bowl, and arrange whites on a serving platter cut-side up.
  5. Make the filling: Add mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt, and pepper to yolks. Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  6. Fill the eggs: Spoon yolk mixture into a piping bag or zip-top bag. Pipe filling into each egg white half, mounding slightly. Sprinkle with paprika.
  7. Create the spiders: Slice each black olive in half lengthwise. One half is the body; from the other half, cut 4 thin strips lengthwise for legs. Arrange body on filling, tuck 4 legs on each side.
  8. Pipe the webs: Spoon 2 tablespoons mayo into a clean zip-top bag, snip a tiny corner. Pipe a small dot in the center of each egg, then a spiral outward. Use a toothpick to drag lines from center to edge in 6-8 directions.
  9. Chill and serve: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Notes

Use older eggs for easier peeling. For the spider web design, practice on a plate first. Pipe webs no more than 4 hours before serving for best appearance. Add a drop of black food coloring to mayo for darker webs.
